Powderham Castle Powderham Castle was built by Sir Philip Courtenay in 1391 and remained a family home for the Courtenay family. Forty years ago, this family opened the castle for the public.

Fun for all the family

Regular guided tours walk you through magnificent State Rooms where you will hear stories offamily lives from the dark ages to the present day. Bring the children and join one of the fun tours – only the sharpest eyes can spot the secret doors!
Powderham Castle is fun for all the family. Ride the tractor and trailer around the grounds or let the train transport you to the working blacksmith and wheelwright. A trip to the Secret Garden for a pat and chat session with the animals is a must for the children.

Knights in battle on horseback

Watch all the spectacle of dashing knights in battle on horseback. Every Sunday and Thursday from 30 Jun, then daily except Saturday from 18 July to 8 September at 3pm.
Stroll through the tranquil Rose Garden and watch the wild fallow deer that have been grazing the land for centuries. Explore the beautiful 18th Century woodland walk and climb up to the Belvedere for breathtaking views of the Exe Estuary. Picnic beside the lake and enjoy the stunning wildlife.
