Castles of Ewias Lacy,1048 to 1403 takes up the history of Longtown Barony from Longtown Castle, 1048 To 1241 and then investigates the history of three of the barony castles. The owning families of the subtitle are also examined with the aid of footnotes to the original sources. The churches of Clodock and of the barony are examined with the tenurial history of the castle sites.

Classification of fortresses

The book concludes with an examination of the castles of Walterstone, Rowlestone, Llancillo and Howton in Ewias commote which were in their time subsidiary to Longtown. Little remains but earthworks of any of these castles, but in their day they provided much of the commote's defensive capabilities. To help with the classification of these fortresses the churches of Longtown, Clodock, Walterstone, Llancillo and Rowlestone are also explored.
