Early earls of Hereford from 1041 to 1155

The Herefordshire Beacon covers much of the career of the early earls of Hereford from 1041 to 1155 as well as the pre-history of this major and important hill fort. The conclusion of the historical research is that the castle was constructed most likely by Earl Harold Godwinson after the battle of Hereford in 1055 and before he became of king of England in 1066. The archaeology of the ancient hill fort and the later castle with its elongated causeway entrance are both covered in depth.
